Not a lizard drinking....

Remember when I said I was flat out like a lizard drinking.. well now I feel like a cat in a tree... ha.. not really. This is my new neighbour's cat. I came up my front stairs and here he was.. he lives in the unit behind this one. That is my tree that is getting cut in about 2 weeks (when I finish the kitchen) as it has grown madly in the last 6 months right over the neighbours lower roof and clothes line. I have good patient neighbours!

Just to give you an idea how high it is.. that tree top is sitting above the 6 foot fence! At first I thought maybe kitty is stuck, but then I corrected my thoughts as I figured if he was stuck, he'd be crying and he just looked bothered that I'd noticed him. When I spoke to his owner, I was told that he stares down the big possums (brush tail as opposed to smaller ring tail)and that is a good thing! They poo and wee mark their territory all over my deck and large outdoor table (must get around to making that cover! note to self).

This is how my kitchen looks mid way through the preparation for painting. It's an old house and not much done to it with it's 50's kitchen. I can't afford a new kitchen but I will paint it a bright aqua colour today (ceiling done yesterday - what a killer on my bad neck!)and the cupboards will be painted a stainless colour. I will rearrange it (not much room for that really) and add some wall cupboards or shelves or both which you will notice I have none of.. so this will add to my storage. I'm so used to the look of not having them (been here 22 years!) I hope I won't feel overwhelmed by them.. I'm sure more storage will negate that feeling..Ha!

Notice the sewing machine and overlocker are on the table.. well they've moved into the sewing/study room which is a pit with all the other stuff in there and that will be  next for a paint job. Hope it's before uni starts so I can feel refreshed and new. I hope I get time to sew soon too! I have my boy back on Sunday night so I'd like to have the kitchen finished and the rest will be done when school starts the week after...how does 6 weeks go so quickly. I only get 3 weeks with my boy so that limits it even more.I've heard some mothers counting down till they can send their kids back to school.. but that's not me.. I love my son's company and doing things together. We might paint the front fence! Back to the painting... do you renovate?

Renovate? We are currently going through demolition ready for delivery of our new house in March. Currently it's dirty and noisy. We are living down the back in our van for the duration. Only been here 2 weeks and I'm already sick of it. Why is it whenever you want to make improvements/changes it gets a whole lot worse before it gets better. :) Good luck with your current endeavours.

I love your kitchen as it is! When I get back to my house in Crabbes Creek I will post pictures of my kitchen. It's been a temporary makeshift kitchen for about 7 years. That's what happens when you renovate 100 year old farmhouses! I've been renovating for most of the last 15 years. Whilst I understand the desire to have fancy new fitted kitchens, I must say I have a real soft spot for kitchens like yours. I think the additions you mention will make this a more functional kitchen without taking the soul away. Lack of storage in kitchens is the thing that really makes me nuts. Do you have room to put in an island? I bought an old map cupboard that I put a granite top and wheels on. The reason for the granite is to have one surface that stays cold in a subtropical climate so I can make pastry, but also to give it some weight. The wheels mean I can move it when needed. You could always get a carpenter to knock up an open frame to any size that suits your kitchen. I once saw an island built over a free standing dishwasher in the middle of a very small kitchen. It worked really well. I hope the rest of your renovation goes well. New paint and a change of handles can make an enormous difference. Can't wait to see the photos!

Yes I have to say I love the kitchen and when I bought the house the cupboards were painted yellow and it made me happy. I think you are right that it will loose soul when/if I change it... I'd love to see photos of your 100 year old farm house... my sister lives in a 130 year old farmhouse at Capalaba on 2 acres and if has it's problems but it is great. Not one of those concrete boxes... I don't think I have room for an island but when I'm done I will see how everything looks and see.. I'd love a granite bench top for the same reason.

Oh you are so right Pam.. it gets worse until it suddenly gets better and then you can't remember the bad stuff.. kind of like childbirth. A new house will be nice to go home to when it's done (and cleaned up!). Good luck to you too...I think your job is bigger than mine!

We just put a new kitchen in our 1920s house. The original was really cute but really small. Not big enough for a growing family. We removed a wall in the process to create open plan living and it is the best thing we've done to the house. I love it. But the reno's (other than lots of painting) will end there. Good luck! A coat of paint does wonders

The saddest dress, then a few more.

Well hello. It's been a while. It was 8 months from the last post to the previous one to that and it's a bit longer this time. The last day I wrote was 10 Jul 2021. On 12 July my son and I were finally seeing Tim Minchin  after booking it before we went to Europe at the end of 2019. It was going to be April 2020, but changed a few times and although it was a school night (year 12 for Alex) we went for dinner and sat in the show. My Mum had gone to hospital that morning and my sister was still at the hospital with her. Just after interval I got a message on my phone, "get to the hospital now". So we raced out and to the hospital where. although it was a lockdown and no visitors allowed, all 10 of us were allowed to see Mum as she was end of life. I won't go into the whole thing but Mum didn't die that night, but because of lockdown, we were not allowed to go and see her until a week and a half later when we were allowed just to discuss palliative care. Bubble O'Bill: take 2; bikinis

With some time at home, I've been sewing a bit lately and I finally had time to make the bikinis for my son's girlfriend for her birthday. I cut them out in February from some scrap fabric my friend gave me. I made my son some swimmers   and I see someone has some for sale if you feel you are missing out 😆.   I had to piece together the bikinis as I had nearly nothing left over. I made the top back and the briefs from the free Madelynne Noelle pattern and the front top from another Madelynne pattern I can't find a link for it but was Mallory Lane. It's a basic top with scrappy back. If anyone wants it I have the download. Looks like it's not available any more.  All this piecing and mixing was purely from fabric limitations. The other fabric I mixed it with was ombre from aqua blue to purple and matched well. I asked Liv if she wanted a frill down the centre front to break up the print as I wasn't sure she would, but she loved the idea, so on the went. She tr

Emergency Rashie KS2600

I go to aqua aerobics 3 or 4 times a week and I like to wear a rashie as it's outdoor and it's a bit warmer in the (not very cold usually but really warm this) winter, and I can't reach the spots for sunscreen. In Brisbane you must wear sunscreen every day even in winter as we have the highest skin cancer rates in the world and I don't want to be any more wrinkly than I am! Anyway, I went to the Gold Coast to see my friend for a few days and I left my rashie at her place and I she wouldn't get to Brisbane for a few days so I pulled out KS 2600. I saw this pattern listed on a pattern site and then became obsessed with it till I got it but this is my first chance to try it. Isn't it lovely! I wanted to test it to see how the fit was. I've made McCall's 7417 a few times but it's long between the shoulder and the arm for me and even though I have made a few it wasn't ever a great fit but it is a quick sew. The pants on the McCall's is a good fit
