Judgement Reserved.

Sorry, still no sewing, but it will start tomorrow!
I finally finished my court case yesterday with a trial. These sort of things normally get settled way before a trial date but my opponent isn't like this. All the while I have been studying the last three years, I have been in three levels of court. I have learned as much from this as I have from university. If you had said to me 4 years ago that I would have a degree and run 3 separate court cases in the next 4 years well, I would have laughed in your face! As well as doing this I realised today I have painted the whole inside of my house in the holidays so no wonder today I feel incredibly fatigued!Anyway judgement has been reserved and that means the Judge has heard our case, will go and read all the material thoroughly and make her decision. It can't be bad for me but could get really good, which is what I am hoping of course. Either way I gave it a go and did my best.

However, with these monkeys off my back, I also feel freeeeeeee!
Spring is definitely in the air with temps getting to 30 degrees by the end of the week and lycra will be getting sewn.

What I am excited about is that in the last 4 years I have bought a treadle Singer, an old electric Singer and a coverstitch machine that I have not used yet.... I didn't want to even try as I'd get distracted (shiny things, shiny things) and play with things I had no time to play with. So there is plenty of learning going to happen here soon. I want to make some things for NZ for the end of September because even though it may be hot here, it won't be in Auckland so at least I will be able to use some of those sweater knits I got. I also hope to get some polar fleece wind resistant stuff to make a jacket for my son. Anyone know where to get some in Brisbane or where is the best place online that shipping is cheap?

The other thing I'd like to try and organise is a sewist meet up in Brisbane. Anyone want to help or contribute ideas, let me know either via the comments of on sofiem@internode.on.net. I'm sure there are bloggers I don't know of in Brisbane so let me know if you know some. Any ideas where to go or when?

So finally I want to say "you'll never, never know, if you don't have a go." That applies to many areas of life, including sewing.

I hope it goes well for you.

I can't help re wind resistant polar fleece in Brisbane - I've looked in the regular suspect shops with no wins - I buy mine from the USA and shipping was not cheap last time I did it, but maybe for a boy sized garment it might work out to chop up a grown up sized one from one of the outdoor shops - I am thinking winter sales for bargains at Kathmandu, Mountain Designs etc (and they might even have a boy sized one....)I have done this adult size to kid size remodelling before for my children - it is so hard to find the good fabric for outdoor things!
(I would be interested in a Brisbane meet up, but I am a few hours away from Brisbane and don't know it very well - with that in mind maybe the Brisbane Arcade?pretty, central and even has an amazingly expensive fabric shop... of course there is always The Fabric Store and nearby coffee shops..), both reasonably accessible via public transport.

Thanks, yes I found some of the new neo shell from polartec, seconds, for $19 yard so I thought 3 yards make one for me and him but the shipping was nearly $60 too. This site said that shipping for international doesn't quote correctly and to email, which I have done but no response. Really tho, I'd get two garments worth $300 each out of it so it is probably worth it in the end.
I didn't think of the Brisbane Arcade... there is the nice cafe up top. I think near the Fabric Store would be better but if it's a Saturday or Sunday it is so busy there. I'll have to think about it some more. Hope you can come tho. (whenever it can be)

Great. I've had another response by email too. I will put some comments on some other people's blogs to let them know and get some numbers up.

The saddest dress, then a few more.

Well hello. It's been a while. It was 8 months from the last post to the previous one to that and it's a bit longer this time. The last day I wrote was 10 Jul 2021. On 12 July my son and I were finally seeing Tim Minchin  after booking it before we went to Europe at the end of 2019. It was going to be April 2020, but changed a few times and although it was a school night (year 12 for Alex) we went for dinner and sat in the show. My Mum had gone to hospital that morning and my sister was still at the hospital with her. Just after interval I got a message on my phone, "get to the hospital now". So we raced out and to the hospital where. although it was a lockdown and no visitors allowed, all 10 of us were allowed to see Mum as she was end of life. I won't go into the whole thing but Mum didn't die that night, but because of lockdown, we were not allowed to go and see her until a week and a half later when we were allowed just to discuss palliative care. Bubble O'Bill: take 2; bikinis

With some time at home, I've been sewing a bit lately and I finally had time to make the bikinis for my son's girlfriend for her birthday. I cut them out in February from some scrap fabric my friend gave me. I made my son some swimmers   and I see someone has some for sale if you feel you are missing out 😆.   I had to piece together the bikinis as I had nearly nothing left over. I made the top back and the briefs from the free Madelynne Noelle pattern and the front top from another Madelynne pattern I can't find a link for it but was Mallory Lane. It's a basic top with scrappy back. If anyone wants it I have the download. Looks like it's not available any more.  All this piecing and mixing was purely from fabric limitations. The other fabric I mixed it with was ombre from aqua blue to purple and matched well. I asked Liv if she wanted a frill down the centre front to break up the print as I wasn't sure she would, but she loved the idea, so on the went. She tr

Emergency Rashie KS2600

I go to aqua aerobics 3 or 4 times a week and I like to wear a rashie as it's outdoor and it's a bit warmer in the (not very cold usually but really warm this) winter, and I can't reach the spots for sunscreen. In Brisbane you must wear sunscreen every day even in winter as we have the highest skin cancer rates in the world and I don't want to be any more wrinkly than I am! Anyway, I went to the Gold Coast to see my friend for a few days and I left my rashie at her place and I she wouldn't get to Brisbane for a few days so I pulled out KS 2600. I saw this pattern listed on a pattern site and then became obsessed with it till I got it but this is my first chance to try it. Isn't it lovely! I wanted to test it to see how the fit was. I've made McCall's 7417 a few times but it's long between the shoulder and the arm for me and even though I have made a few it wasn't ever a great fit but it is a quick sew. The pants on the McCall's is a good fit
