Brisbane Spoolette's meet up

Alice and Lizzie

Alice and Lizzy again (yes I know, it's nearly the same photo, sorry!)

Bianca and Rosie - both are more gorgeous in real life!

Another bad photo but it shows Lizzie's beautifully fitting dress and Rosie's gorgeous outfit.

Saturday 28th March was the Brisbane Spoolette's 2nd high tea meet up. It was also my birthday so double bonus.... I get to celebrate and have fun and I don't have to do anything! (I also had a 50th birthday party immediately after which was great fun also). I wore my Style Arc Alisha dress and got many lovely compliments... thanks ladies! I was RACKED with indecision about what to make... even at 10am I was thinking I could make something simple but still could not cut into anything. (It's been a busy time around here and it's slowed down from yesterday thank goodness).

I took 4 photos, with only two really worth it, but I got so caught up with talking and catching up with everyone that I forgot to take more. It was another great afternoon. I took many patterns a 4 or 5 pieces of fabric, but came home only with 1 piece of lovely silk and 5 patterns. One is an infinity dress, a shirt and shirtdress and this next one...

Isn't it hilarious! I want to know why the dog's face is whited out... to save face in the dog modelling world maybe! In a moment of madness serendipity, my mother asked me last week if I could make a raincoat for Hercules the family dog. I even have some high viz ripstop or some orange umbrella type fabric and reflective tape. Anyone have any experience with this type of project.... this looks like it is made for stretch... can I increase the size and make it out of ripstop? Do I line it with something soft? It rains here in the summer so it's hot and rainy not cold. Someone asked me if I'd put the spikes on... why not me thinks... if the dog is looking stupid with a raincoat why shouldn't he go all out with spikes too. This isn't next in line... I'm making some pyjamas for my niece for her birthday that was a week before mine... she's hard to buy for and doesn't need anything but always appreciates me making something for her and you can never have too many pjs can you? I'll use the same Burda pattern I used for mine as I'm really happy with them. It will be stash fabric but which one? I have two in mind but one will win over as I'm not sure if she likes the colours of the other one.

On another note, I have come into some (a little) money and I'm thinking to buy a new machine (maybe after I sell 3 or 4 of the 7 machines I have). I'm looking at a Pfaff but I have no experience with them nor do I know anyone who has one. I'll make time this week to go and test one and the shop I'll go to has Bernina too... but boy are they expensive. To compare the two, the Pfaff I was looking at is about $800 and the Bernina is about $3000! Any advice or comments are very welcome.

I have never heard of the Brisbane Spoolettes, but I wish I had! It looks like a great gathering, and the fashions are beautiful. I love Rosie's outfit and your Style Arc dress is stunning (love the silver accessories). Congratulations on your milestone birthday, and on a great blog. Thank you for visiting my blog. I have joined yours so I can follow your stitching journey.

What a lovely day - wish there were more bloggers meets around. I think your dress (and yourself) is gorgeous - just right, and it suits you (especially the colour) perfectly. Enjoy the next decade - believe you me, it goes quickly.

Such a great day! You looked fantastic in your dress!

I LOVE my Bernina (QE550) but it was expensive. The Bernina accessories are expensive too so keep this in mind if you need to get extra presser feet. Bernina usually have sales before Mother's Day if you can wait a little while. I haven't used a Pfaff.

Long time Pfaff user - have a Tiptronic 2030 - the thing which sold me at the time was the built in walking foot - IDT rocks! Extra feet & accessories are easy to come by for my model & it's a real workhorse. All the best with your purchase.

Lovely post & lovely to see you! My dog has a raincoat, that he refuses to wear, it's waterproof fabric that is lined with fleece & the edges bound with bias. It doesn't have leg/sleeves. Instead his head pokes through the neck hole & a panel covers his chest & wraps up onto his back with velco. We got it from a website called Whippet Wear. Yes, really!

Ah! This post reminded me of my friends. It has been a very long time that we got together. I am planning to book a nice event space for that. It was lovely going through this post. I must share this post with my friends too. I am sure this will help them make plans.

The saddest dress, then a few more.

Well hello. It's been a while. It was 8 months from the last post to the previous one to that and it's a bit longer this time. The last day I wrote was 10 Jul 2021. On 12 July my son and I were finally seeing Tim Minchin  after booking it before we went to Europe at the end of 2019. It was going to be April 2020, but changed a few times and although it was a school night (year 12 for Alex) we went for dinner and sat in the show. My Mum had gone to hospital that morning and my sister was still at the hospital with her. Just after interval I got a message on my phone, "get to the hospital now". So we raced out and to the hospital where. although it was a lockdown and no visitors allowed, all 10 of us were allowed to see Mum as she was end of life. I won't go into the whole thing but Mum didn't die that night, but because of lockdown, we were not allowed to go and see her until a week and a half later when we were allowed just to discuss palliative care. Bubble O'Bill: take 2; bikinis

With some time at home, I've been sewing a bit lately and I finally had time to make the bikinis for my son's girlfriend for her birthday. I cut them out in February from some scrap fabric my friend gave me. I made my son some swimmers   and I see someone has some for sale if you feel you are missing out 😆.   I had to piece together the bikinis as I had nearly nothing left over. I made the top back and the briefs from the free Madelynne Noelle pattern and the front top from another Madelynne pattern I can't find a link for it but was Mallory Lane. It's a basic top with scrappy back. If anyone wants it I have the download. Looks like it's not available any more.  All this piecing and mixing was purely from fabric limitations. The other fabric I mixed it with was ombre from aqua blue to purple and matched well. I asked Liv if she wanted a frill down the centre front to break up the print as I wasn't sure she would, but she loved the idea, so on the went. She tr

Emergency Rashie KS2600

I go to aqua aerobics 3 or 4 times a week and I like to wear a rashie as it's outdoor and it's a bit warmer in the (not very cold usually but really warm this) winter, and I can't reach the spots for sunscreen. In Brisbane you must wear sunscreen every day even in winter as we have the highest skin cancer rates in the world and I don't want to be any more wrinkly than I am! Anyway, I went to the Gold Coast to see my friend for a few days and I left my rashie at her place and I she wouldn't get to Brisbane for a few days so I pulled out KS 2600. I saw this pattern listed on a pattern site and then became obsessed with it till I got it but this is my first chance to try it. Isn't it lovely! I wanted to test it to see how the fit was. I've made McCall's 7417 a few times but it's long between the shoulder and the arm for me and even though I have made a few it wasn't ever a great fit but it is a quick sew. The pants on the McCall's is a good fit
