Sew Darn Tired

With some time at home, I've been sewing a bit lately and I finally had time to make the bikinis for my son's girlfriend for her birthday. I cut them out in February from some scrap fabric my friend gave me. I made my son some swimmers   and I see someone has some for sale if you feel you are missing out 😆.   I had to piece together the bikinis as I had nearly nothing left over. I made the top back and the briefs from the free Madelynne Noelle pattern and the front top from another Madelynne pattern I can't find a link for it but was Mallory Lane. It's a basic top with scrappy back. If anyone wants it I have the download. Looks like it's not available any more.  All this piecing and mixing was purely from fabric limitations. There was a little op shop having a sewing stuff sale and I went to it. Really, I do not need anything sewing, but I did buy a few things. A few patterns... why, oh  why.. I have hundreds I want to sell off. I did buy this elastic above for $1. It has a little sticker saying it's old and to be used for bunting but I used it for undies anyway. It's still in excellent condition. There was a red and a another colour too and I wish now I had bought all three.  I made two pairs. One from a scrap of stretchy satin and the checked one was leftovers from a dress I made a few years ago and it's nice and fine but has a great stretch. These are togs I've made for my sister for Christmas. This is the McCall's 7417 pants. I cut the panels not to match on purpose so that you can see the panelling. I like it. I wish I had some green or black lycra to make some 'piping' so the panels were more pronounced but I'm not too worried. I made the front and the back and then cut the lining pieces off the made up front and back and fully lined them. Isn't the lycra pretty. It's from Pitt Trading and it was only $5 per metre. It feels pretty old but it still is fine and I couldn't resist it. It's slightly goldish and I really like it.  I've got more and another nice black one that for a bit of a laugh... show you that when I get time to make it. I finally finished the Ottobre jacket from the Winter 2015 issue. It's a terrific pattern and quite easy to make. I finished it a few weeks ago but just haven't had the inclination to blog about it. Some details: it's made from the merino/nylon mix from The Fabric Store, which was only $8 per metre. It is very stretchy which posed some problems with the zip but so comfy and warm. The merino is the terry like loops on the wrong side and the nylon is the outer layer. I have it in some apple green too and they had some in a raspberry colour as well. I made leggings out of it for my niece and me a while ago and she still calls them the best leggings she's ever had! The shoulders fit me perfectly ! Really just like it was made for me (ha ha) but the hips are very narrow for me. It's a lovely two piece raglan sleeve with an add on cuff.
