Ottobre 5/2017 no 4 and some extra stuff

This is the Ottobre top no 4 from 5/2017 magazine. I have a lot of their magazines but although I like their basic styles I don't make much. I'm trying to get myself using them more.  Sorry, such bad photos but I never remember when I'm out and about somewhere nice. I made it from some white cotton knit that I bought at a workroom sale locally. The woman was having a big sale and although there were some nice fabrics, it wasn't my style or not that great a bargain to justify stashing. (I've done too much of that already). There was a huge pile of large and smaller remnants and she wanted $20 bag (on of those ugly heavier supermarket bags) so my friend and I shared one bag full and boy did we manage to stuff a lot in that bag. It's a very nice fabric and all the fabrics were good quality. I've got a top cut out of another knit with roses (but I can't find the instruction sheet even though I've tidied everything up!).  I made my top ...

Floating with cocktails and other adventures.

Hi! Long time no see. I'm going backwards here with  unblogged items. I'm starting with a  pencil case I  made for my son at the beginning of the year. Pencil cases are pretty expensive and really *r@p. I used some zips I had in stock (ha ha , I feel like I have  "stock") and  some great 'fabric' I picked up in  Spotlight . It's kind  of net over some plastic. It was on sale for $8 per metre and then half price for $4.  There was also  a hot pink one too, but when I took them to the counter they didn't want to give me the  pink one for the half price so I left it  because they didn't say before cutting that it wasn't  on sale.  Anyway, I had to go back later for something I forgot and  it was  in the remnant bin so  in the end I got it for $2.50.  I  bought it to make some shopping bags .. still unmade min you. Anyway my  son really liked the pencil case but after 1 day it had scribble on ...

And the rest..including Style Arc Halle Skirt

This should be called the *rapiest photos ever.. anyway, this is from probably two months ago. I have just had no time to get good photos or me wearing them even though I wore them a lot during winter. Of course winter here is about 5 minutes long.  I scored the Style Arc Halle Stretch Skirt from the Spooleetes High Tea in April. I love the asymmetric front. The skirts below are not in the order I made them.  It's a great pattern. Three pieces and I can cut one out and sew it up in 30 minutes. Perfect work skirt.  This piece of fabric was from New Zealand when I was living there in 2003. It was just a small piece and just enough for a front/back straight piece using the back pattern piece only, with splits on the side. It is excellent fabric and a very plain but useful skirt. The  second made was the very spongy black patterned knit stuff. I bought this at Darn Cheap in Melbourne last year. It's soft and warm and very easy to sew. It was the full siz...

Kwik Sew

So recently Spotlight had Kwik Sew patterns - 3 for the price of 1. I don't really need any patterns as I have plenty but some took my fancy and I'm keen to sew some up. I have been really liking the waterfall jackets... I have a Butterick pattern (not mentioned yet but brought over from the US with a friend... that's another post though), a New Look cut out and I liked the length of this Kwik Sew one too. I was seduced by Kristy's beautiful version  of the jacket on the right. Don't expect to see it fitting me so perfectly but it looks nice and easy and it's a bit different and a bit timeless too. I was thinking of sailor type pants but when I saw this shorts pattern, I thought I could make them up and see if they suit and I may be able to lengthen the legs and not have to trace out a Burda one. Not sure how KS patterns fit me as I've only made a dress a while ago now. I have these cut out from a leftover piece that was not enough for anyth...

Ottobre and Burda - a nice couple.

This is my latest sewing. Sorry it's so crumpled.. I've been out all day and also did some house jobs before thinking about photos.  I had planned to take them while I was out, but of course I forgot my phone today so I used my real camera. I think they are better although the colours aren't perfect. Finally something my $5 pink plastic watch matches! I had shoes on but ditched them when I got home for my trusty Birkis! Introducing my overgrown garden made worse by the heavy rain last week. The patterns are the Grain Field top from the current summer Ottobre 2/2015.  Sue, from Quilt, Sew, Sew Sue has also made this recently  and she has the line drawing there too, if you'd like to have a look. It's an easy pattern and made up in a couple of hours.  The fabric is a remnant piece I bought from Spotlight in Adelaide when I was there in 2011. It was only about 80cm long and 120cm wide. I shortened the top length about 6 cm as Ottobre is made for a taller ...

Simplicity 9522 Jiffy

I made a stripy Super Jiffy Simplicity 9522. I made this last November and wore it to see  Ed Kuepper   original member of the Brisbane band  The Saints  said to have started the punk rock movement. It was a free gig for the G20 meeting that was held here. It was a great gig.. Ed Keeper never disappoints (also loved his band The Laughing Clowns)... but hang on this is a sewing blog so onto the dress.   It's a very simple singlet style dress. The pattern shows it with a side split and self tie belt -both of which I didn't use.  The fabric is from Spotlight and one of the ones I've spoken about taking back.  It's a great weight cotton/poly knit with a great navy stripe... I really like it but..... See the pilling? That's not even on a 'high traffic area' like on your hip where your bag rubs. That is really bad and pills the instant you wear it. Good stripe matching on the back. The pattern doesn't call for using bands for the neckline or...
