Bug boxers

Alex is the big winner in the sewing game lately. He needed some more  as the last ones I'd made was 2020 . The fabric is a cotton remnant from Spotlight from ages ago. I really liked the bug print and perfect size for these boxers. It's the same pattern Simplicity 9958. This is such a great pattern as it's just two pieces with a fly which I normally close but you could leave it open. It's got full size range for kids and adults. You can just see the clear buttons on the photo above. I bought these labels in Stoff and Stil  when in Cologne in 2019 so I'm happy to use it for the first time. I don't like labels in my clothes so I'll only use them when I make something for someone else. I have been cooking still too. I normally make stollen for Christmas but as my sister passed away on 3 December I just didn't feel the love, but on Christmas Eve morning I decided I'm make a small batch. My sister was an amazing cook and she must have been watching over ...

Novelty prints and a refashion

I get drawn to novelty prints but really they aren't for me. I don't really know why. When I was in Melbourne in 2016 I bought some nice cotton knit with 'flat cat' and in Spotlight a couple of years ago I bought a moustache print (that I noticed they still sold online the other day). Alex's pjs were getting too small and ratty. He was wearing a t-shirt that was bought in light blue to wear under his school shirts in winter as it was just a bit too cold for just his jacket but too hot to wear a jumper (sweater) with it. It was worn out and stained and soft so he loved it but it had to go. I threw it away while he was at his Dad's. I've used this Simplicity boxer pattern a lot. It covers all sizes, uses small bits of fabric and is quick and super easy 1 piece pattern so there is no side seam.   I've used this Simplicity boxer pattern a lot. Belated welcome to 2019

Happy 2019... I hope it has started well for all of you. I had a great start with a get together  bringing the new year in at my friend's apartment right on the beach at Broadbeach where there was fireworks all along the beach. Such a fun evening even if I had to drive down to the coast after work.  The morning before I started, I made a sparkly skirt and wanted to make a top the day before but didn't gt time so I wore my black top I made for my Dad's funeral. Unfortunately the only photo I have my skirt doesn't feature but we got a nice photo together! A better photo is from our recent (got back yesterday) holiday to New Zealand. We went to the south island to Christchurch, then to Franz Joseph and Fox glaciers, the Marlborough Sound and Wellington. Sounds like it was short, but it was 10 days with lots of driving on some amazing roads. I've been a fan of Nick Cave since the early 80's and my first time was when he was part of The Birthday Party at...

Merry Christmas - catch up

Merry Christmas all! Hope you all had a great festive season and are enjoying holidays still. I'm back at work tomorrow for a bit but we also have some holidays coming up soon too. I'm going to run through the last few things I've made. Some for gifts and some for me. Some were made a couple of months ago and some just yesterday, but in the interests of documenting what I've made and getting it done, this is a bit of a dump. I know there is one dress I haven't finished yet and also a skirt I don't think I have a photo of. The skirt is just a purple ponte knit skirt in an a line shape. Quite useful and when I do get photos I'll show how I've put the waistband on. Better way than the stitch and flip on the grey skirt below. I finished up the last two purse from the lambskin leather I bought last year. I do have a clutch purse I've prepped and couldn't find, but my treat to myself was to tidy (and find the floor) of my super small sewing ro...

Catching up.

The Brisbane Festival was on during the school holidays and my niece had a busy technical role there. This meant busy days and nights (till about 3am!) for about three weeks while the public was there and many weeks pre and a few post. The upside for us was we got to see two free shows and we chose three shows to see as well. If you ever see that  The Listies  are in town, you must go see them. They were HILARIOUS.. Gratuitous Thai green chicken curry - I'm seriously addicted. That was the third one in two weeks. Of course they always work out a bit different due to the veggies I use but either way it's always great. You can see sewing is never far away, with a pattern piece on the stove top! There has been sewing but I think I need to make two posts so I'll start with the stuff I made for my son. The last thing I made him were some sleep boxers from this one piece pattern. It's sized for men, teens and boys and he's moved into the teens size...
