Busy busy.

Victoria Bridge with the Wheel at Southbank at left and the city on the right. Story Bridge from the "City Cat" ferry with the city in the background. Pink in September is Brisbane Festival time. The bridges are lit up hot pink and there are so many great things on. I have had 4 nights out in a row.... The new Nick Cave movie "One more time with feeling." Devastating to watch... after his recent family tragedy. Friday night was spent at the Spiegleltent watching Mick Harvey, an ex member of Nick Cave's bands since The Boys Next Door in the late '70's. It was fabulous. Sitting in front of us was Robert Forster from The Go-Betweens my all time favourite band... wonderfully from Brisbane.  The next night I was at the Spiegletent again watching Custard, a band very popular in Brisbane in the '80's (they played really a lot but curiously considering the amount of live music I would see then I never saw them live... They were great and Rober...

Done... but what a struggle.

That above, is how much thread was on the bobbin - a few centimetres - when I finished this cape.  The only bit of ease with this project - just had some frustrations that wore me out (maybe because I was at the start of a run down feeling and it wouldn't have bothered me so much otherwise).  This is Butterick 5909, a See & Sew pattern that my friend from the U.S. sent me (top right in photo below) last Christmas. It's a darker, more blue based red than appears in the photos where it looks a little raspberry red (which is quite nice though).  I made size XS in view B which ...

"A cape with drape" - and I quote!

It is school holidays here till the end of this week. Last week on Wednesday, my son woke up and asked me to make a very specific piece.  Son - "Mum, can you make me a cape. no not a cape, a cloak? Today?"   Me - "Of course. Like with a  hood?" Son - "Yes, it needs a hood, but no buttons or things to close it in the front - just whole. Oh, it needs to be red and it needs to have a lot of drape." What???? Drape? Did I hear my son correctly? Now, I just want to point out, my son is like any other boy/man when it comes to fabric and fabric shops - boring, do I have to go etc, etc, etc. I have never said drape to my son.. maybe he heard me but I don't get to talk sewing in front of him very often but I was very pleased and impressed that he knew what he wanted and how he wanted it to behave. Off to Trad's to pick up some cheap fabric hopefully in his vision colour! Yay for Trad's perfect fabric at $4.95 per metre - we took 3. (w...
