In and out

Hi, I hope everyone is doing well. I have finally done some sewing, but interestingly it is a quick fabric turnaround. I work in the city and there is a Lincraft in the shopping complex opposite. I don't go in very often as I don't really need the temptation and I find I don't like a lot of the stuff they have but for emergency supplies it's convenient. I found some fluffy pink stuff on sale ($8 pm) and bought about 2.8 metres (I only wanted 2 but it was the end of the roll and they discounted the .8 to half price). So I bought this one week and a week later I used it up... in and out.. no stash friends! I wanted to make another of these: I made view A with the kangaroo pocket, but I shortened it by about 8 cm in the middle. I think I may still cut the curved hem as I don't really like it on me. I've used this pattern  here,  and  here , and I made this one  (which I love but is a dirty work one now) with ordinary fleece.  That rolled collar is great up or down....

It's been a while.... it's a long one.

Well hello! It's been a while hasn't it. Life is busy and I just haven't had time to blog. I have done some sewing so I'll catch you up. This is a sweat shirt I made to  try the sizing of Kwik Sew 938 pattern below for my son. The fabric was cut offs of a super wide fleece blanket I bought and I could just fit it on this. So two things... one, it wasn't big enough and two, the fabric has some strengthening woven into it so it doesn't stretch. Normally it would fit me but with no stretch, I couldn't move.  I used the pattern and cut on the fold. I think I used the 36. How old is this pattern too! Next I made the jacket next size up with the pockets and only half the collar (as it's super wide and folded over) with some of that grey merino/nylon french terry backed stuff. I even put some bias tape stuff to stop the stretch but I should have put it on both edges where the zip would sit as when I folded it over the top stretched out so ...

Lots of stuff.

Get yourself a cup of tea, this is a long post. Lots of stuff to show and talk about. Firstly, here's a picture of my shower cap... my niece's flew to Toyko this morning (well in her bag anyway). Mine has been tested and it works a treat... it could go a bit larger as I have what's commonly known as a pin head so it probably won't be big enough for anyone else. Rosi  mentioned the proliferation of selfless sewing here and I'm going to show you some more. This tunic below I started for my Mum about 18 months ago and for some reason the overlocker wanted to eat the very light and slippery fabric in the first 5 cm so I got the *$&% and put it away. Then worked out (eventually) it was the needles that needed replacing and did that but never finished the top as it had scared me. This was a remnant from Spotlight and I bought it for Mum as I don't wear animal or browns. I made the small from memory and I tried it on and it looks nice on. It will be nice w...

"A cape with drape" - and I quote!

It is school holidays here till the end of this week. Last week on Wednesday, my son woke up and asked me to make a very specific piece.  Son - "Mum, can you make me a cape. no not a cape, a cloak? Today?"   Me - "Of course. Like with a  hood?" Son - "Yes, it needs a hood, but no buttons or things to close it in the front - just whole. Oh, it needs to be red and it needs to have a lot of drape." What???? Drape? Did I hear my son correctly? Now, I just want to point out, my son is like any other boy/man when it comes to fabric and fabric shops - boring, do I have to go etc, etc, etc. I have never said drape to my son.. maybe he heard me but I don't get to talk sewing in front of him very often but I was very pleased and impressed that he knew what he wanted and how he wanted it to behave. Off to Trad's to pick up some cheap fabric hopefully in his vision colour! Yay for Trad's perfect fabric at $4.95 per metre - we took 3. (w...
