Undies, grundies, smalls, intimates, unmentionables...whatever you call them

Whatever you call them, I made them finally. I have been putting off buying undies because I can make them but I haven't ever made any before and was nervous about it. Why ever so???? It is so easy. My impetus was finding Kwik Sew 1484 at the Salvo Thrift Shop a few weeks ago. I had a free day yesterday and wanted to sew but had to have a win... I've not been too happy with my fitting lately and have been putting off sewing stuff although I know what I want to make.



The first pair I made with fabric leftovers from a Fabric Store buy that I made a bias cowl dress (don't know if I blogged it) and I made them in size Medium and they a bit too big so the next two I made in a small size and they are perfect. The sheer flowery fabric was $2 at the Fabric Store a while ago and I only bought a metre because I like the colours and wasn't sure what to make from it, the other is like a tightly knit but fine power mesh (but it's not mesh - if that makes sense) perfect for undies. I had all the elastic from a bag I bought at Big W in the city years ago and there was a few different types. The gusset was made from old cotton t-shirts and were perfect for the job.

I'm really happy with these and I feel like I've had a win. I really want to start making my own bras so maybe this is the start of my lingerie making! Do you make your own undies, if not, why not!

They look great ~ and I guess they really didn't cost you much at all! Since you have had such success with these, give the bra's a go ~ you will be saving yourself a fortune ... J

These look impressive. I have made a pair of pants (ie underwear) once and though i always intended to make more I never got around to it somehow. Maybe one day!

I 'very had a go at making undies. It's fun , great way to use little scraps and most importantly really really comfy. Yours look very professional I still need to improve mine.

Great work for your first time - the elastic application looks very professional! I don't make my own undies because I like those laser cut seamless type but I should start because they cost an absolute fortune for such a small amount of fabric!

It is so easy. I think the Kwik Sew pattern instructions help. It's pretty easy. Go to it!

I know the ones you mean.. they are expensive. That natural fabric I have is very slinky and easy to sew but gives a nice smooth finish under clothes. It was cheap too from memory.

Yay for a win! The underwear looks great! I have yet to sew any for myself but have made some for my little girls. They seem to prefer the handmade ones vs. the storebought!

Thank you for visiting mine. Your kids are gorgeous and your son's reduced interest in getting his photo taken is same as my son's. Most times now I can only put photos of what I've made but not on him.

Paris, river cruise 2022 - photo bomb!

YFASMA - Fabric shopping in Athens

I promised this post in March! Fabrics from Euro1 per metre! I didn't buy anything in this shop but there was some lovely fabrics. I did buy the green and pink one above on the right. A satin finish rayon. It is lovely. There was a lot of lovely fabrics in this shop. It wasn't cheap Euro 8 p.m. but I didn't have a lot of room in my bag and I wanted something I would really love. I also didn't buy anything in Paris this time. I did buy the  fabric for a table cloth  just across the way from this shop. I also bought some orange/white weave linen fabric for Euro 4 p.m. at another shop, which I think I'll make some summer trousers with.  As I was going to the airport, I saw this dress on the platform and I really liked it. Very easy to do too, I went to the  Benaki Museum  while in Athens. There is actually 2 locations. In this one I saw lots of Greek and Cypriot cultural crafts. This was a bridal bed in Crete. More things I've made - part 2

Hello... welcome to part two of things I've made. I now realise there will be a part 3 as there's more I can't post tonight. These things I made last year before I went to South Korea for a holiday. The photos of the top that I made with the Vogue pattern above are down below. Don't know why Blogger won't let me move them, but I don't have time to argue with it!  Anyway, I made it with some merino French Terry I bought years ago. It is merino loops, but the outer facing part of the fabric is nylon. It's very lightweight, warm and comfortable  but not the best for this pattern as the nice high neck doesn't stay up high, but it's still really nice and useful in my warmish winter. I made it as the vest top and hemmed it and bound the armholes with some fold over elastic I bought at some markets in Lisbon in my trip last year. I put a chunky metal pink zip as the closure. I will make this again as I really like that it's not a boring old pullover. I...
