More things I've made - part 2

Hello... welcome to part two of things I've made. I now realise there will be a part 3 as there's more I can't post tonight.

These things I made last year before I went to South Korea for a holiday. The photos of the top that I made with the Vogue pattern above are down below. Don't know why Blogger won't let me move them, but I don't have time to argue with it!  Anyway, I made it with some merino French Terry I bought years ago. It is merino loops, but the outer facing part of the fabric is nylon. It's very lightweight, warm and comfortable  but not the best for this pattern as the nice high neck doesn't stay up high, but it's still really nice and useful in my warmish winter. I made it as the vest top and hemmed it and bound the armholes with some fold over elastic I bought at some markets in Lisbon in my trip last year. I put a chunky metal pink zip as the closure. I will make this again as I really like that it's not a boring old pullover. I'll try to put the photo of the finished top.

This skirt above is made from a silk velvet which is just divine. I got it from the first Brisbane Spoolettes High Tea fabric swap. I had made it up in my head a million times but finally settled on a bias cut skirt with elastic waist. I cut the elastic and put it on with my overlocker and then folded it over and tacked it to the side seams so it isn't sewn down around the waist. I didn't hem it but it may need something at some point. I've worn it a lot. Above its at MONA in February this year. That was one fantastic day in a fantastic 8 days we had in Tassie. I used an old 80s pattern of a bias skirt that I had hanging around. I feel amazing wearing this skirt. I love it so much. I'm on the lookout for silk velvet (that isn't $60-$90 a metre) to make a top to wear with it.

This bias cut skirt I made in the late 80s or early 90s. It is linen from the designer fabric sale I used to go to and it was probably a couple of dollars only. The interesting thing is it is the exact fabric that is on the pattern envelope. It doesn't fit me anymore as it's got a waist of about 60cm but I loved it so much and I just can't get rid of it.

Here's the velvet skirt in Gamcheon Village in Busan in South Korea from my trip in November 2023. I LOVED visiting South Korea. It was so exciting, friendly, safe, fun and a real culture explosion. I'll go back sooner than later.  Anyway I'm wearing it with a wrap top I made from Ottobre. It's on the cover of the magazine below. My fabric is merino but quite fine so it was over a black merino bodysuit I made the year before.  I know it doesn't go and that colour is not my colour so I may dye it. Also my menopau$e bust is just too much but it is super warm and comfy.

In the magazine it's made for something more substantial. The photo below is when I made it and wore it as it is on the cover. It's very short - kind of a scarf with sleeves but also can be used as a wrap top for me as I'm so short waisted.

Last thing in part 2 is some undies and bra tops I made for the friend who gave me the fox novelty fabric I made the the track pants in the last post. She gave me a huge bucket of fabric, and these were just scraps but of amazing quality cotton knit. Just comfy sleep wear for her. I ordered the fold over elastic from Aliexpress. Also made last year. The blue set had bands placed around the arm holes and neckline but the elastic on the pants and the brown ones I had less fabric and put the foldover elastic on all the edges.

I have a few more things to post - Spoolettes Frocktails 2022, 2023 and 2024 dresses and a couple of other things. It's gratifying to see that although I don't feel like I have sewn much I actually have made a few things. It's getting hot here now and I'm itching to make some dresses. I have to use up my stash of patterns and fabric.

Always great to see your makes. The blue velvet skirt is gorgeous, definitely a keeper. I also love to see your expertise with knits, at which I am hopeless. The scarf/jacket is very clever, and versatile. happy sewing. x

More things I've made - part 3.

Well part 3 is here. First up Style 1876. Did I ever say that Style are my favourite patterns? So this one was an op shop find a long time ago. It's a great pattern. I can't remember if the bodice is cut on the bias (but I think not) and the skirt is cut on the bias. I made it out of some synthetic crepe in the most fabulous colour. It has great pockets that you can see on the red dress.. The are sewn onto the back pieces, and then when you sew it up and leave the opening, you stitch the pocket onto the inside/front of the dress. That pocket isn't going anywhere. I used up all the fabric which was a gift from a friend's mother in law. It turned out to be a bit see though and I didn't wear it. It fits so nicely around the shoulders and arm holes. I decided I was going to wear it to Brisbane Spoolettes Frocktails this year as I didn't have time to make something else. I decided that it needed something else though as it was a little too see through for me.  I had ...

YFASMA - Fabric shopping in Athens

I promised this post in March! Fabrics from Euro1 per metre! I didn't buy anything in this shop but there was some lovely fabrics. I did buy the green and pink one above on the right. A satin finish rayon. It is lovely. There was a lot of lovely fabrics in this shop. It wasn't cheap Euro 8 p.m. but I didn't have a lot of room in my bag and I wanted something I would really love. I also didn't buy anything in Paris this time. I did buy the  fabric for a table cloth  just across the way from this shop. I also bought some orange/white weave linen fabric for Euro 4 p.m. at another shop, which I think I'll make some summer trousers with.  As I was going to the airport, I saw this dress on the platform and I really liked it. Very easy to do too, I went to the  Benaki Museum  while in Athens. There is actually 2 locations. In this one I saw lots of Greek and Cypriot cultural crafts. This was a bridal bed in Crete. There was lots of clothing, embroidery and gold jewelle...
