A different fabric souvenir

 Hello 😀 It's been a long time. There are many reasons.  I've had two blog posts ready; one from a trip with a friend last year to Paris and Amsterdam and then a cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, and the other from my trip in late May/June this year with my son to Athens, and then I went onto Cyprus (to see my maternal family) and then Paris for a lone few days and then to Lisbon to see some friends who were there staying with their family. I've had some lovely things happen in the last two years but some really hard things too.

Anyway, I had to go back to Athens to fly home alone and did my fabric shopping then! (as Alex is very impatient with fabric shopping 😊... not sure why. There was lots. I bought a few pieces but the one I'm going to show you today is a more unusual fabric souvenir. 


It's a table cloth! I found it at one of the fabric shops in the fabric area; I'll do another post about the area soon. It's quite heavy cotton. I'd say canvas like. This was the last section of a buy off the roll panels. It's square; although I haven't measured it but I would say it's about 1.6m x 1.6 or so. There was another option which had lots more left but was a much busier print. I liked the simplicity of this one.



The selvages were cut with pinking shears and the other two ends were the straight panel cuts. I wanted a bit of white showing after the last stripe and started sewing straight lines at a distance from the stripe and then did a double fold and sewed it down. It wasn't cut evenly so the hem goes a bit narrower in some spots but the thread I used (from Mum's stash) is a perfect match so it's hard to see. I just finished it now and put it on the table.


This has made me enormously happy. Also that it's been done within 8 weeks of getting it home. I love it on my huge deck table. Have you had any unusual fabric souvenirs? 

I'll be back soon. I've made some things, got some unfinished still things, I've repaired some things and sold lots of my machines too. Don't worry, I still have too many. See you soon.

Hello Sophie, how lovely to see your blog post. Your tablecloth is absolutely gorgeous, and a perfect souvenir from Greece. How pretty it looks on the deck table. It looks like you have done quite a bit of travelling, and good for you. You had a difficult time the previous year. So many lovely places in Europe; Paris, Amsterdam, Portugal, Greece - what a list! Happy sewing and travels to you.

Welcome back! Lovely souvenir from Greece. Looking at it should rekindle memories of your trip. So sorry to hear of the hard times. Hopefully, that is all in the past now and only happy times are ahead.

More things I've made - part 3.

Well part 3 is here. First up Style 1876. Did I ever say that Style are my favourite patterns? So this one was an op shop find a long time ago. It's a great pattern. I can't remember if the bodice is cut on the bias (but I think not) and the skirt is cut on the bias. I made it out of some synthetic crepe in the most fabulous colour. It has great pockets that you can see on the red dress.. The are sewn onto the back pieces, and then when you sew it up and leave the opening, you stitch the pocket onto the inside/front of the dress. That pocket isn't going anywhere. I used up all the fabric which was a gift from a friend's mother in law. It turned out to be a bit see though and I didn't wear it. It fits so nicely around the shoulders and arm holes. I decided I was going to wear it to Brisbane Spoolettes Frocktails this year as I didn't have time to make something else. More things I've made - part 2

Hello... welcome to part two of things I've made. I now realise there will be a part 3 as there's more I can't post tonight. These things I made last year before I went to South Korea for a holiday. The photos of the top that I made with the Vogue pattern above are down below. Don't know why Blogger won't let me move them, but I don't have time to argue with it!  Anyway, I made it with some merino French Terry I bought years ago. It is merino loops, but the outer facing part of the fabric is nylon. It's very lightweight, warm and comfortable  but not the best for this pattern as the nice high neck doesn't stay up high, but it's still really nice and useful in my warmish winter. I made it as the vest top and hemmed it and bound the armholes with some fold over elastic I bought at some markets in Lisbon in my trip last year. I put a chunky metal pink zip as the closure. I will make this again as I really like that it's not a boring old pullover. I...

Silk and undies, and old skirt, Korea

 I found a photo of the silk I bought when I went to Seoul South Korea. It's so pretty. I can't remember how much it was but it was a good buy. Earlier that year, when I was at the fabric area in Paris, the silks although beautiful, were very expensive.  The colour on my monitor is pretty accurate. I love it. There was huge markets with lots of crafty stuff and fabrics but it was overwhelming. The market we went to, Dongdaemun had lots of hand made jewellery too. I bought some capiz shells to make a mobile (I must find those). My friend bought some lovely big feathers. ** from here to the coffee is a repeat. For some reason I didn't remember already putting this up so apologies :) My friend gave me a big tub of really beautiful quality fabrics. These above were remnants pieces but I decided to make her something. I used the Kwik Sew 2028 pattern and made two sets.
