It's a long time since I've put up a post but I have been sewing a bit.
First up a pair of Indigo togs from
Sinclair Patterns. This was a voucher that they gave for a gift bag for the Spoolettes Frocktails 2023. So made in Feb this year. I used remnants of dance lycra - bright green back, hot pink front and white straps and white lining. I loved them. I put a clip in the back that isn't part of the pattern - not hard to do I just snipped it and sewed each side of the clip on.
The
Indigo is a great pattern and I liked it because it has regular and full bust options. I really loved these togs. They fit well, were really comfortably and were bright and happy. I only got to wear them a few times. I left them on the hook on the back of the pool door and called them to say I'll get them the next few days (I'm a member and go every Sunday) and they told me they'd hold them at the desk. I went in and after a lot of back and forth and days of not knowing what happened, they told me the girl at the desk threw them out because they were running. I was livid. Firstly they didn't run or the white would have been discoloured and they were hanging on the door for at least 2 hours before I could get through on the
phone when I waited till they went to the change room and found them. Anyway I made them give me a pair of togs that they sell but it's not the same! I made another pair you can see unfinished in the photo further down.
The dress below was for Frocktails 2023. It was held at the Greek Club and it was a great night. I'll do a post about it and Frocktails 2024 with lots of photos.
Another thing I made was some 'Hudson' type track pants. It was from some Lillestoff German fabric that my friend gave me as a large remnant. I'm not really a fan of wearing novelty prints but I figured these won't be worn out and it was such lovely cotton knit. It's a Burda pattern, and I used some cotton tape stuff I saved off another pair of pants I had bought millions of years ago but a perfect colour match. I put some fancy stitch on the pocket edges. They are simple and super comfy. I used the selvage to sew up a little tag to hang because I generally hate labels scratching me and this is just soft.
The next little cardi I made from some merino knit I bought a while ago which was sort of a very light butter colour which is not really for me. I dye it about 2 winters ago with avocado skins and seeds and it came out this dusty pink which I love. This is a Simplicity pattern which is about 13 years old. I've made a few of these and it's so quick and look great in different fabrics. I should get all the photos of them and put them together. I made this and the blue togs further down at Sewaway - a getaway of sewing! Our Brisbane Spoolettes group admin get this organised for twice a year and this is the first time I could make it. You take everything you need to sew, with the suggestion that you do your cutting at home to make great use of sewing time. It's from Friday afternoon to Sunday midday. Such fun. All food and accommodation is included. There was 64 of us. So fun to be sewing all together. See the gong just behind the mirror in the photo.. when someone finishes something they hit the gong, everyone cheers and you do a little model walk with it. I'm wearing another dress I made under it - orange gingham cut on the bias.
You can see the pink colour here and we were given some little labels for the sewaway and put one on my little cardi.
Next at the Sewaway, I made a little jacket out of the scraps from a dress I made to wear to my Mum's funeral out of two remnant pieces I bought at The Fabric Store a couple of years ago. It was absolutely just enough to get these little pieces cut for this little bolero. I have to sew the sleeves on yet. Pattern below - it's by Image Wear Patterns. I bought a couple of their patterns years ago. I had to piece a couple of the pattern pieces so I could get them out, but it worked out so fantastically. It is drafted beautifully - a funnel collar and really interesting piecing. I love it.
I made these lilac pants very recently for a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. This photo is taken at Angkor Wat. They are a made from a cotton fabric that was from Mum's stash and I was just using it as a test of the Sewaholic Thurlow trouser pattern. It's a great pattern. I had wanted it for years and bought it finally off a pattern selling FB page. How I wish there was more Sewaholic Patterns. Anyway due to bug spray and sunscreen that stained the hems of these trousers so I cut them to 3/4 when I got home. The fabric crushes a lot but as a test they were great and cool in the heat of Cambodia. I SO need more lilac fabric to make more... who knew I'd need lilac pants, but I do!
The third thing I made at Sewaway was another pair of Indigo togs. This fabric was given to me from my friend that gave me the Lillestoff cotton above. She's a runner but I loved this print and put it on the front of the togs. The fabric is ombre from the blue above to the purple on the bottom. I hadn't put the elastic on yet but I did finish them. I lined them with purple lycra. I've had lots of comments on them when I have worn them.
Well, I have more sewing to tell you about, but I think this is enough for now. It won't be long. I've wanted to blog about it for so long. Hope things are good wherever you are!
