Giveaway!!

Well, on Wednesday 27 April I have been blogging for 12 months!  To celebrate I am giving away a length of fabric, some retro sunglasses and a 1948 tuxedo blouse pattern!



The fabric I bought at a second hand shop on Bribie Island.  It's an openish weave, linen like fabric.  Not my colours (I don't do brown) but I saw it on someone a while ago in a lift and it looked nice.  There is 1 1/2 metres and it is 140cm wide.  The pattern is size 16 bust 36" .... I have seen one on the net and it is in colour... the lot of patterns I got at the jumble sale were all this era but all the McCalls are in black and white.  I have not opened it but presume it is all there (if I get time I will check).  The sunglasses are divine I think and I know someone will love them!

Congratulations on blogging for a year!
My favourite parts of the blogs I read are probably tutorials and showing the things they've sewn or bought at second hand shops.

I have only just started my blog and doubt I will last a year so congratulations! I like to see the pictures of all the things that have been made and, I must admit, read about other sewers mishaps and how they get over them as it makes me feel that I really am not the only one out there who makes mistakes and that very often something that you think is totally ruined is salvageable.

My favorite part about the blogs I read is the sense of community I get. I don't have any sewing friends in real life, blogs make me feel like I'm not alone!

my favourte part about blogs are the mistakes people make and generally sewing things....actually i really like reading and seeing photos of muslin people make that's always great.

Constructive sewing advise. Not so much tutorials (but those are great too), but an insight in the sewing progress. With entries about things they found on the net as well.

I agree with number 2. I have no sewing friends in real life. Blogs like yours are like sewing friends to talk to and learn from.

Congratulations on your one year!! My favourite part of sewing blogs (which I have just recently started reading) are the tutorials and guides in pictures of how to do things , like diffrent seams etc. its much easier to understand when a 'real' person shows you how to do it!

I like seeing all the things people make. Step by step along the way. I've learnt so much from the blogs I read. Best of all is the sense of community you get. I don't meet many people with the same crafty interests as me, so its great.

I love tutorials, or step by step posts on making garments. I always learn something when people post these! I've tried, and I know how hard they are to make, though!

I also love seeing how people wear the items they create - not just a final outfit shot, but maybe a couple more posts when they just happen to wear the item. :)

I love looking at all the inspiration - I sew for 18" American Girl Dolls and I look at pictures of 'historical dresses' or patterns and copy them in doll size. If you don't mind - if I win (yes, I know, I never win) really just send the sun glasses and pick another winner for the fabric and pattern because I would never use them anyway - not my size or style anyways!!

Trying a vintage togs pattern.

                       Hello, it's been a while again. Not as long as some bloggers who have recently returned to blogging...up to 7 years, but I'm glad people are coming back. I never joined Instagram as I'm not that fussed on 'social media' and more with people who write about their sewing.  So back to sewing. I picked up this vintage McCalls togs pattern. It's quite a good value pattern as there are three very different and interesting swimsuits included. That's pretty rare. It's a size 16. I decided to make view B. All of the patterns have pieces for the bra cups too which is really great. Photographed with it is a Burda beach wrap. I can't find the magazine number right now, but it's at least 10 years old. Basically it's a large square of fabric with arm holes cut out. The fabric is genuine 70s towelling. I know because Mum bought it to cover our 'fantastic plastic' vinyl couch. Vinyl was preferred back then...

Kwik Sew

So recently Spotlight had Kwik Sew patterns - 3 for the price of 1. I don't really need any patterns as I have plenty but some took my fancy and I'm keen to sew some up. I have been really liking the waterfall jackets... I have a Butterick pattern (not mentioned yet but brought over from the US with a friend... that's another post though), a New Look cut out and I liked the length of this Kwik Sew one too. I was seduced by Kristy's beautiful version  of the jacket on the right. Don't expect to see it fitting me so perfectly but it looks nice and easy and it's a bit different and a bit timeless too. I was thinking of sailor type pants but when I saw this shorts pattern, I thought I could make them up and see if they suit and I may be able to lengthen the legs and not have to trace out a Burda one. Not sure how KS patterns fit me as I've only made a dress a while ago now. I have these cut out from a leftover piece that was not enough for anyth...

Island night... PNG cruise

Well hello again. I've just come back from a cruise to Papua New Guinea and I made a dress for Island night. Island night or any theme night is just a suggestion... there is no organised event, meals, activities; just a dress code suggestion.  As soon as I read that, I searched for this vintage surfie fabric I bought years ago at an op shop. I was thrilled to use it. I needed an easy pattern that I could make 2 days before the cruise departure and one that I would wear again.  I used this Style 2911 pattern that I only bought online a few months ago. Style are my favourite patterns. I cut out a size 16 but had to reduce it to the 12. It's a great simple but elegant pattern and it went together perfectly. My machines liked it too... they cooperate when they like what I'm making and it was a breeze.  I cannot believe that we didn't get one photo of it on.
