Giveaway!!

Well, on Wednesday 27 April I have been blogging for 12 months!  To celebrate I am giving away a length of fabric, some retro sunglasses and a 1948 tuxedo blouse pattern!

The fabric I bought at a second hand shop on Bribie Island.  It's an openish weave, linen like fabric.  Not my colours (I don't do brown) but I saw it on someone a while ago in a lift and it looked nice.  There is 1 1/2 metres and it is 140cm wide.  The pattern is size 16 bust 36" .... I have seen one on the net and it is in colour... the lot of patterns I got at the jumble sale were all this era but all the McCalls are in black and white.  I have not opened it but presume it is all there (if I get time I will check).  The sunglasses are divine I think and I know someone will love them!

So leave a comment and tell me what your favourite parts are of blogs you read.  I will send the goods anywhere and I will draw it on Thursday night Australian est. And when you make something or wear the glasses send me a photo! Good luck!

Congratulations on blogging for a year!
My favourite parts of the blogs I read are probably tutorials and showing the things they've sewn or bought at second hand shops.

By the way I passed on an award to you on my blog.

I have only just started my blog and doubt I will last a year so congratulations! I like to see the pictures of all the things that have been made and, I must admit, read about other sewers mishaps and how they get over them as it makes me feel that I really am not the only one out there who makes mistakes and that very often something that you think is totally ruined is salvageable.

My favorite part about the blogs I read is the sense of community I get. I don't have any sewing friends in real life, blogs make me feel like I'm not alone!

Constructive sewing advise. Not so much tutorials (but those are great too), but an insight in the sewing progress. With entries about things they found on the net as well.

I agree with number 2. I have no sewing friends in real life. Blogs like yours are like sewing friends to talk to and learn from.

Congratulations on your one year!! My favourite part of sewing blogs (which I have just recently started reading) are the tutorials and guides in pictures of how to do things , like diffrent seams etc. its much easier to understand when a 'real' person shows you how to do it!

Hi there
I've just found your blog through Sew Retro. I really enjoy feeling part of the sewing 'community', which must be one of the friendliest and most supportive online communities. Also, I'm pretty nosy so I love to see what others have been making, and get ideas for my own sewing and knitting projects!

Hi Sofie,
Congratulations. Saw your post on Sew Retro. I enjoy the pictures of patterns and the clothes made up. But also the insight into the lives, thoughts and doings of some very productive and generally happy people.

Congratulations on one year! I enjoy seeing creative corrections to mistakes. Maybe I'm fatalistic like that. But it helps me with my own process.

The best thing I read about in blogs are the result of what people have done and also how they did it aka tutorials.

I like seeing all the things people make. Step by step along the way. I've learnt so much from the blogs I read. Best of all is the sense of community you get. I don't meet many people with the same crafty interests as me, so its great.

I love tutorials, or step by step posts on making garments. I always learn something when people post these! I've tried, and I know how hard they are to make, though!

I also love seeing how people wear the items they create - not just a final outfit shot, but maybe a couple more posts when they just happen to wear the item. :)

I love looking at all the inspiration - I sew for 18" American Girl Dolls and I look at pictures of 'historical dresses' or patterns and copy them in doll size. If you don't mind - if I win (yes, I know, I never win) really just send the sun glasses and pick another winner for the fabric and pattern because I would never use them anyway - not my size or style anyways!!

Congrats on the blogoversary! I love seeing the results of others' hard work- especially if it is a pattern I own and can make myself! Basically, pattern review is my favorite place =)

I love it when bloggers get personal, cheese right?! It truly makes me feel more connected to the blogger and the community of sewers. :)

My birthday is on the 27th too!

Congratulations! I am always attracted by the photos of the things people make. Also interesting "how to's".
I love the bits and bobs rounded up from like-minded sewers around the world/web! :)

Paris, river cruise 2022 - photo bomb!

(this post has been in my drafts since July 2022 due to life circumstances. I'm just going to write just a little and then just show some photos)  My friend worked on a  Superyacht  for many years and through this connection was offered a friends and family deal on a river cruise in Europe. It was a deal too good to miss even though it wouldn't have been a first choice for me for a holiday. She had done this trip before but during the winter  taking in the Christmas markets. We were going in June 2022. We decided to have 5 nights in Paris (where I'd been 5 times before) and 2 nights in Amsterdam where my friend lived for 2 years in her youth.  We flew into Frankfurt... not because we wanted to but because these were the only flights we could get but we worked with it. Remember great deal! So ok, a short (5hr), fast ride on the ICE/TGV trains got us to Paris eventually (one was late which missed the connection to the earlier TGV but there was one a bit after). We knew that w

YFASMA - Fabric shopping in Athens

I promised this post in March! Fabrics from Euro1 per metre! I didn't buy anything in this shop but there was some lovely fabrics. I did buy the green and pink one above on the right. A satin finish rayon. It is lovely. There was a lot of lovely fabrics in this shop. It wasn't cheap Euro 8 p.m. but I didn't have a lot of room in my bag and I wanted something I would really love. I also didn't buy anything in Paris this time. I did buy the  fabric for a table cloth  just across the way from this shop. I also bought some orange/white weave linen fabric for Euro 4 p.m. at another shop, which I think I'll make some summer trousers with.  As I was going to the airport, I saw this dress on the platform and I really liked it. Very easy to do too, I went to the  Benaki Museum  while in Athens. There is actually 2 locations. In this one I saw lots of Greek and Cypriot cultural crafts. This was a bridal bed in Crete. There was lots of clothing, embroidery and gold jewellery.

The saddest dress, then a few more.

Well hello. It's been a while. It was 8 months from the last post to the previous one to that and it's a bit longer this time. The last day I wrote was 10 Jul 2021. On 12 July my son and I were finally seeing Tim Minchin  after booking it before we went to Europe at the end of 2019. It was going to be April 2020, but changed a few times and although it was a school night (year 12 for Alex) we went for dinner and sat in the show. My Mum had gone to hospital that morning and my sister was still at the hospital with her. Just after interval I got a message on my phone, "get to the hospital now". So we raced out and to the hospital where. although it was a lockdown and no visitors allowed, all 10 of us were allowed to see Mum as she was end of life. I won't go into the whole thing but Mum didn't die that night, but because of lockdown, we were not allowed to go and see her until a week and a half later when we were allowed just to discuss palliative care.
