Grinch

Happy new year everyone.  So much has happened since last year. I have a post still in draft about my trip to Europe including 5 days in Paris and some fabric shopping but life has been pretty busy and at times very cruel so I just have not had the time to write a blog post let alone sew. I'll get to that later. One of my sisters wanted a Grinch t-shirt for Christmas but she couldn't find one (although she did later) and she bought a plain t-shirt and a kids Grinch t-shirt asking if I could sew the print onto her shirt. The black t-shirts were a good match. I cut an oval shape around the print to make it quick and easy as time is a valuable resource with not much spare.  Even in real life it's hard to tell it's sewn on. I did put a stretch interfacing that I had in black on the back just for a bit of stability but it worked out perfectly. I sewed the little label on the sleeve. She really liked it and it will be worn for many Christmases in the future. My Dad and his on...

A cute little top I made.

I have this cute vintage pattern and I also had some leftover red polka dot rayon from a dress I haven't finished yet. I had just enough to cut this cute little top out. I made this a few months ago now. I wanted to try the pattern as it was so cute - not that I have that much time to make random tops, but there you go.  It turned out really great! I moved the middle bodice part which is cut on the fold in 1 cm from the fold to widen the bodice a bit as I was making it for my son's girlfriend. It is and self line bodice.  I haven't seen it on as it just got cool when I finished it so I'll get a photo when summer comes around again (and that won't be soon enough!) The back is open has these two cute ties so it would be so cool in our hot summer. I love how This top turned out. It's cute and quite trendy in the little crop top phase that is going around.  See the tassels above, I washed this dress in a friend's top loader which are much rougher on clothing an...

The saddest dress, then a few more.

Well hello. It's been a while. It was 8 months from the last post to the previous one to that and it's a bit longer this time. The last day I wrote was 10 Jul 2021. On 12 July my son and I were finally seeing Tim Minchin  after booking it before we went to Europe at the end of 2019. It was going to be April 2020, but changed a few times and although it was a school night (year 12 for Alex) we went for dinner and sat in the show. My Mum had gone to hospital that morning and my sister was still at the hospital with her. Just after interval I got a message on my phone, "get to the hospital now". So we raced out and to the hospital where. although it was a lockdown and no visitors allowed, all 10 of us were allowed to see Mum as she was end of life. I won't go into the whole thing but Mum didn't die that night, but because of lockdown, we were not allowed to go and see her until a week and a half later when we were allowed just to discuss palliative care. By the n...

What have I been doing

Hello, it’s been so long since I have had even a second to think let alone blog. I’d like to say I’ve been sewing  but I haven’t. The togs I made died and I found a new pair in a second hand shop so and they just died. I just adjusted and finished a pair I started making my sister a few years ago but she decided she didn’t want togs and I needed a pair to go into the spa and steam room in my friends Broadbeach apartment this weekend where I write this. Enforced time away from home. This is the last days of my week off and my son has gone camping with his friends. I’ll take some photos of these later. Now I’ll just put up pictures and slight commentary on the last 8 months.  I bought a barbie and we cook on it a lot  this is grilled barramundi, we’ve had snapper a few times too  I make my mums special sauce to put over it  delicious, easy and healthy.  I have done heaps of nice cooking. The only sewing I’ve done is fixing a few things and hemming pants...
